It can often feel like getting the skin we want seems unreachable. I can definitely understand and it also can seem like a daunting and overwhelming task.
Look, it doesn't need to happen all at once. It needs to just come little by little. But, I can promise you that if you begin the process of developing good habits now, it won't seem like too much moving forward.
Here are 5 simple, natural steps to begin that process of putting your skin on the path that rocks.
1. Incorporate more veggies and fruits in your diet.
As a society, we eat way too much animal protein. And animal protein is inflammatory, which accelerates aging. Switching to a plant-focused diet is going to make your system more alkaline, which reduces inflammation. It will help your skin immediately look less blotchy and irritated, and over time, it’ll be better equipped to hold onto moisture, protect itself from free radicals and pollutants, and build collagen and elastin.
2. Wash with cool or lukewarm water.
Too hot of water, while it may feel good, can strip our skin's natural oils. Keep your water to a comfortable temperature when washing your face.
3. Lymphatic Drainage Massage
The lymphatic system is like the sewage system of the skin: It pumps out all the metabolic waste that our cells push out. But when that system slows down, which happens with age as well as inactivity, skin looks puffy and unhealthy, and things like eye bags and dark circles become that much worse.
We are believers in doing your own daily lymphatic facial massage while applying your morning moisturizer and eye cream. And the best news is that this technique only takes a minute or so. Here’s how to do it:
Start at the midpoint of your forehead and move your fingers gently out to your temples, down in front of your ears, over your jaw, and down your neck. Repeat three times. With your eye cream, run your fingers above your eyes and out toward your temples and down your face. Then do the same thing under the eyes. Repeat this three times as well. Finally, start in front of each ear and run your fingers down your jawline and neck. Repeat three times, and you’re done!
4. Dry Face with Separate Towel
Don’t use the same towel you dry your body with that you dry your face with. The bacteria and oils that develop in other, well, certain areas don’t translate well on your face.
5. Find a routine, and stick to it.
Think of it like working out. You can’t simply work out once a month or week and hope to get the body of your dreams. It takes consistency and daily attention. Just as working out, you may not see results in one day or a week, but with consistency you will see results after a few weeks of effort.
